Semaine baleine was rated by Best of Cape Cod 2011 as a Provincetown travel destination must see and it begins July 25 – 30.
The annual event Semaine baleine: Une Fête de la Mer kicks off with a beach cleanup has many activities for all ages. There is a Arts and Crafts day for kids, a landscape photography workshop, whale lecture, sunset cruise and it wraps up with a party at the pier. Plus it is possible to see the migrating whales on their way to Stellwagen Sanctuary for those who want to hike out to Long Point. Be sure to take binoculars for a close up view of the great ocean beasts.
For those looking for a rigorous hike, there is the West End Breakwater/Rock Jetty located at the west end of Commercial Street. The jetty is mostly large rocks stretching out to Long Point. It is a long walk and less ideal for smaller children. Do be careful as high tides can create slippery conditions but on a good day, it is a great hike and the scenery is astounding.
For the two-wheeling people, there is a popular and very scenic bike route on a paved trail that goes from Herring Beach to Race Point Beach. It runs right through the Cape Cod National Seashore area.
