Friday Nights in Provincetown Among Art and Artists

During the warmer months, no matter what weekend you choose for your getaway to Provincetown, there is always something to do on the Friday night after your arrival.  In long tradition, more than 20 area art galleries and museums welcome guests late into the evening for the Friday Night Gallery Stroll.  This evening of art appreciation is a great way to unwind from your week and ease into your Cape Cod weekend vacation!

Since the very early 1900’s, Provincetown has been a destination for artists and art students alike.  The railroads had made the Cape accessible to all, and after Charles Webster Hawthorne opened the Cape Cod School of Art in 1899 right here in P-Town, the natural beauty and town acceptance saw many, many artists calling our town their new home.  Even today, all you need to do is stroll through town to see evidence of the visual artistry, not only in shops, museums, and area businesses, but also in yards, on houses, and even on seaside buildings.

And we are proud of our arts heritage.  It is a part of who we are, integrated into our day-to-day lives.  It is in this spirit that area galleries and museums spend Friday evenings celebrating art from both then and now.  Between 6-8 pm, you’ll find open doors, and sometimes refreshments and music, as well as artists themselves strolling up and down Commercial Street.

Once you arrive at your B and B accommodations, take a deep breath of the sea air and wander downtown to mingle with the town and our art.  Who knows, you might even find that perfect piece you’ve been wanting for so long…
