Dancers from noted companies from all over the U.S. will gather at Province Lands Ampitheatre at 6:00 p.m. on July 26 to showcase dances of many genres. Ballet, modern, interpretive… you never know what will show up on stage from year to year. However, it has been said that this year’s lineup will cover “classic” dances that die-hard dance lovers will likely recognize.
The event was the brainchild by Liz Wolff and Stacey-Jo Marine, who have been involved in performing arts for more than 20 years. Marine and Wolff hoped to bring dance to Cape Cod in the summer, when nearby schools are on break. Realizing that summer was the perfect time to treat both locals and visitors to dance performance, they created the festival to bring a bit of cultural enjoyment to the public during Provincetown’s busiest season.
Although this iconic event is only in its second year, it will likely continue to flourish now that knowledge of the event has gotten out. Thanks to the fantastic outdoor location offered by the Province Lands Ampitheatre, and the charm and draw of our great town, dancers and companies have actually been asking to participate throughout this past winter, guaranteeing a stellar line-up. Included in this list is former New York Ballet star Valentina Kozlova, who is coming out of retirement for a second time to perform her own personal ballet solo, choreographed by Margo Sappington.
General Admission tickets are $25, and Reserved-Seating tickets start at $100. Tickets are available at the Cape Dance Festival website. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.
